Basement Outlet by sump pump stopped working

About 6 months ago I noticed my sump wasn't on in my basement.
I plugged it in to another outlet across the room and it worked fine. The outlet it was plugged into just stopped working.
My house is 100 years old too. It doesn't seem like a fuse has blown.
What could this mean? Am I in harm's way? What should be done?

Could be loose wires, bad contacts in the outlet, fuse not making good contact in the fuse box, etc. If you still have a fuse panel, it should be updated to breakers.

Is the outlet GFCI protected upstream?

Is the pump on a GFCI circuit? Plug a lamp or something in to the outlet and try to find out why there's no juice, unless you have a tester use that.
