Basement Bathroom wiring?
 
I added a 20 amp circuit for my bathroom using 12-2 wire. I want to put a CGFI circuit and a light switch on this same circuit. I want to put them in a 4 gang box. Is this okay?

Can I just run the power from the breaker to the Line on the CGFI, then just run a single black wire from the Load on the CGFI to power the switch, using the white wire and just pigtail with the white for the light?

Is this 20-amp circuit ONLY powering this bathroom? A circuit can power outlets AND lights in a bathroom only if that bathroom is the only thing on the circuit. From your post, I gather you have run this new circuit for this bathroom only (good idea!).

Why a 4-gang box for two devices? Are there other devices in this box that you haven't mentioned?

You can wire the light off the load side of your GFCI if you want. Bathroom lights are not required to have GFCI protection (unless they are IN the shower). This way if it trips, you are not in the dark. If you do wire the lights from the load (protected) side of your GFCI, you have to run the white through the outlet as well, or the GFCI will trip instantly.


So, if you want your lights protected with GFCI, you should have:

Black and white from the panel into the LINE side of the GFCI.
Black and white out from the LOAD side of the GFCI:
-Black wire from GFCI to the switch, then black from switch to light
-White wire wire from GFCI wire-nutted to white that goes to light

If you decide not to GFCI protect your lights, you can connect the outgoing black and white (that go to the switch/light) to the line side of the GFCI outlet. You can not wrap two wires around the same screw. Most newer GFCI outlets allow you to connect two wires under clamps next to each screw. If yours doesn't, you'd have to pigtail the black & white before (on the panel-side) the GFCI.

I meant a 2 gang box.Great this is exactly what I thought. Thanks for the conformation.
