This is my first post to this forum, I found it while I was browsing the net. I have a question about baseboard heaters. I am thinking about installing 3000W (240V) of baseboard heating in my living room. The breaker box and subpanel are both full, so there is no room for any more breakers. What I was planning on doing was adding the 3000W (240V) of baseboard heating in the living room to the circuit that currently has a 1000w (240V) baseboard heater that is in a bedroom. The circuit that runs to the bedroom is a 20 AMP 240V circuit. After adding the living room heaters to that circuit, the total load would be 4000W, which is below the 4800W maximum limit but over the 80% limit of 3840W. The total load would be 83.33%. Regardless of how many heaters are installed in the living room, I want all of them under one thermostat. Is it safe to do this or should I look for alternatives such as reducing the 3000W load to 2500W (72.92%) for the living room? *Also, the section of the cable that will carry the full 4000W runs about 5 feet from the breaker box. Not at all sure...but, here in Quebec the 80% doesn't apply to heating circuits. Reasoning for this? Ironically, heating circuits have less thermal cycling on the conductors and therefore less mechanical stresses on the connections and components.
