Ballast for flourescent bulb

Have old ballast burn out, it has black & white wire on one side a blue & red wire on other side, I took old ballast to electric supply store to get replacement, they have me a ballast with two blue & one red wire, told me cap off one blue wire! It worked for 30 minutes and light went out, burn the ballast, why?

All ballasts have a wiring diagram on them. The colours aren't always the same. Put your old ballast beside your new one and check for the differences in the diagram. Rewire to the new ballast ignoring your existing wire colours but connecting the ballast leads to the lamp terminals as marked on the new wiring diagram.

Did you install a new bulb at the same time as the new ballast?

Yes, I did, actually owner went to lowes and bought two of the new ballast replaced and it went out within 20 minute, that's when he call me to help him, the Rexel electrical supply store a counter person told me that.new ballast is little different. But still work with one wire of blue.
It is 12 footer bulb and 70 watts 2 bulb in it!

Make sure you are using new bulbs of correct type/size to match with the new ballast.
