Bad dimmer switch?

I swapped out some pendant lights over my bar. They were working fine for hours then a pop and a spark at the ceiling. Turns out that when the house was built some of the sheathing was removed and the bare wire hit some metal in the box causing it to arc. This has been fixed but the lights will not come on. Could the dimmer switch be bad now?

This could be a tripped breaker or a blown fuse also.

Bad dimmer switch?

There are no tripped breakers, blown fuses or GFI's to be reset.

Make sure the power is off and bypass the dimmer to see if it works.

Bad dimmer switch?

It very easily could be bad, the surge current could have destroyed the TRIAC before the breaker tripped.

Check if it has something to do with the pendant lights.

Very simple the dimmer is toasted when it was arc'ed out inside the junction box and the dimmer are famous for not taking a short circuit at all even some of the indentscent bulbs can knock the dimmer out of commison which I have see it from time to time.

So simple test is put a standard single or three way switch and test it to see the luminarie do come on without issue if that work fine then you know the dimmer is toasted some case you can smell it from the dimmer housing.

Merci,
Marc
