Attic light switch location

I saw your photos and I have a similar wiring situation in my attic with Romex running up a joist to a light switch box and a duplex receptical, both in metal boxes. The wiring is secured with insulated staples. Did you get confirmation that this is OK? How far from the opening to the stair well is it permissable to have a switch fasrened to a joist? It is convenient to have it located within reach to turn on the lights while standing on the stairs.

Thanks,

Art Lewis

The light switch for an attic is required to be located near the entrance to the space. Either on the wall before entering or within reach after entering the attic would work.

Thanks! It is within reach.

Is it necessary to protect Romex running up a joist if it is stapled securely with insulated staples?

Thanks! It looks exactly like the picture above with the square box with a duplex receptical and switch and runs of # 12 Romex to it. I could nail 2 X 2 fir strips on either side of the Romex if required to give it more protection.
