Attic Light Switch

Is there a special attic light switch that can turn light on when drop ladder opens?

Yes, it's called a doorway switch.

Something like this should do the trick.

WEll....indirectly you could use one of the X 10 devices with a motion sensor. Other than that there are contacts which could switch a low voltage circuit. It certainly can be done.

How about a switch that will turn the light off when the stairs go up?

Seriously, check out something like this:

You could mount it on the side of the access opening so that the plunger opens when you open the door.

Yes, you could use an occupancy sensor. But, the most simple would be one of the door jamb switches that has been linked to.
