Armored cable from Jbox to shop light (Chicago)

Hi all,

I have 3 shop lights in a detached garage that currently plug into GFCI protected outlets. GFCI occasionally trips when turing the lights on/off. Nothing seems wrong with the wiring, everything is properly grounded. I should note that the shop lights are cheap 4 foot duel T12 fixtures.

I'm looking to remove the outlets all together and hard wire the lights to eliminate the need for GFCI on that circuit. I have 25ft of 3 wire armored cable handy, and there are junction boxes within 2 feet of each light fixture.

My question is, is armored cable acceptable in this situation, or should I head out and buy some greenfield instead? Local municipality is using NEC '08.

Thank you.

if you're only under the NEC and not the chicago code armored cable is fine.

if you're under the chicago code i'm not certain, but i believe armored cable is allowed in 6' lengths, so you should still be fine.
