Applicability of NEC 680.10 to Hot Tub

I am trying to determine whether or not the requirement that underground wiring cannot be installed within 5 feet horizontally of an above ground hot tub that is installed on a gravel base with a polyethylene platform.

In particular, I am trying to determine if this applies to POCO supplied service run to the meter box? The location where I would like to position the hot tub would have the side of the hot tub enclosure approximately 2 feet horizontally from the POCO supply to the meter box. The code states that if space constraints don't allow the installation to meet the 5 foot minimum horizontal space requirement, the underground wiring must be installed in RMC, IMC, or non-metallic raceway. I don't know if the POCO typically uses any type of raceway system for their service supply wiring.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Best Regards,

Ted

you will have working space requirement trbl.space needs to be 30" wide and at least and 6 1/2 high.just imagine going through your front door.thats what you need.i don't think the service will be a prob.just the fedder to the tub.

Thanks for the response. Does this mean the 5 foot horizontal minimum distance requirement doesn't apply to POCO incoming service wire to the meter? That wiring is installed roughly 2' - 2'6" below grade according to locator device used by locator service. What is the "6 1/2 high" measurement you mentioned? Is that in feet or inches? Is that for buried vertical and/or horizontal measurement?

Ted

the 30 inch wide x 6 1/2 feet high is working clearence for meter eq.the poco may not let you put it there because of working space concerns.i think that code section doesn't apply to service.

I'm pretty sure this limits the poco wires also.

The only person that can give you a correct answer is your local inspector.
