I agree with that line of thought. A permit has to be required, but if the department's inspectors aren't up to speed on solar/PV systems, the department should pay for a 3rd party electrical inspector. I assure you that I'm not up to speed on it, and wouldn't feel comfy doing the inspection myself...But I would require a permit and would get a qualified inspector to look it over.

The 3rd party inspection is a great idea, it would solve the problem completely.

That's all there is where I live. The county has no inspectors qualified to do electrical inspections.

I'm in the process of building a house and have considered a solar system using PV laminate. I've found some that install between the seams of a standing seam metal roof and are almost invisible from a distance. I intend to use only net metering and not any storage. Since I already have a permit to build the house, I don't need anything extra for this.

pv laminate ...? as in solar shingles? how much is this going to run you approx.? any idea?
