Any special considerations installing lights/wiring with I-Joists?

Buying a new house that has engineered/I-Joists. I want to replace the existing cheapo basement porcelain fixtures with some banks of fluorescents.

Just wondering if there are any special rules for engineered joists? I understand the rules about going through the joist and/or not cutting/notching the bottom plate. Specifically, I just wanted to make sure there are no special concerns with stapling when running along the joists and/or hanging lights from the bottom plate?

Thanks,

Mike

The I joist manufacturer typically stamps the I joist. The manufacturer usually has a set of instructions on allowable penetrations, fasteners, and methods for hanging fixtures. Check the manufacturer's website, or call them if they don't have the specs.

As stated earlier, the I-Joists are pre stamped. You just need to pop the plugs out and run the wiring through the holes. Stapling along the joists is not a problem either.
