So what about a defective device? To me, that is still nuisance tripping.

When I did my kitchen, I had a brand new cooper 20A GFCI device that would trip as soon as it was energized.

another arc fault question....

After reading the article found by Chris75, I agree: Too many times I hear of nuisance tripping as an excuse..and everything stops there!

Another reply stated: "Is it nuisance tripping, or is the AFCI just doing its proper job?" BEST TO GO WITH THAT ONE!!!

Go against human nature: Skip the easy convenient excuse that is most likely terribly wrong, and do YOUR proper job in finding the wiring fault that most likely exists. That's the harder choice, but it may save your life and the lives of your family.
