How can I change outlets for aluminum wiring house?

Aluminum Wiring House


The outlets MUST be labeled to be used with AL

Do not use an outlet that is only marked for copper - CU

Receps must be approved for Al use. Al wiring is more fragile than Cu. Are you sure it's Al and not tinned Cu?

If you must mess with this I would recommend pigtailing copper conductors to the Al with specially listed Al/Cu wire nuts. Standard devices can then be used.

When was the house built?

The proper labeling you are referring to is: CO/ALR.

Also note that (as far as I know...) no manufacturer makes a GFCI that is Copper/Aluminum rated. To install a GFCI you would be required to pigtail.
