Albany NY electrician shorted out my house

Hired this clown to put in a new panel and hook up a hot tub. He didn't know how to put the meter back together so the lights first flickered, dimmed and went out. Since I have a well I couldn't get any water and the bum did not return calls for 2 days. Next stop Small Claims Court. Already wrote to the BBB and Attorney General.

Look on the permit, get his license # off it and call the inspector, and report him.

Your first mistake was hiring a clown... that big red nose and those big floppy shoes are always getting in the way!

But seriously, sorry to hear about your problem. Have you had it corrected, or still without power? I assume it is too late to stop payment?
Good luck with it and let us know how it works out.

Call your local POCO and report him as well. Pulling the meter is almost never permitted by anyone except them.

Thanks, I assume that POCO is my local power company? In this case, National Grid?

Yes, all is OK now once I got a real electrician over - thanks.

He lives in Albany but they have no record of him there. I'l try Troy next.

Anyone hear of Dimax Electric or Mike McGovern?

I assume you have some reason for telling us this? Small claims might get you somewhere if it's needed the other two were likely a waste of your time.

Have you been able to contact the electrician? If so what was his response?

Yes, to warn others and to maybe get more ideas and info to strengthen my case.

I gave him a 2nd chance to fix his mess and he only made it worse and now wants to come back a 3rd time but I don't want him anywhere near me.

I called National Grid (old Niagara Mohawk) and they said it isn't illegal to open their meter - only illegal to tamper with it or steal it so I can't get him on that.

If someone took my meter apart and disappeared on me, I'd consider it tampering, well-intentioned or otherwise. Of course, Nat Grid might disagree.. Not sure where they draw that line.

Just south of Albany we are allowed to remove and replace meters if the proper paper work is filed and we are on an approved list. One of the main things required to be on this list is a TON of insurance!

If he was a licensed electrician and had a contractors license you can go after his bond. They are also required to carry liability insurance.

Call your insurance company and get them involved. They can get someone in to fix the damage and will go after this clown. They know how to do this kind of stuff and are very good at it.
