alarm system contacts

I need to replace the recessed contacts on window to self adhesive ones on the outside of the window frame. Wire was 4 wire going to 2 wire coming from recessed contact and spliced. Do I just connect the 4 wire on one end and add new connectors with 2 wire and splice those together. Seems doing that woule close the circuit. Does anyone know if this is right

Would need more info about system to advise. Most alarm systems are "closed" circuit and a continuity tester would verify this for you.
Why can't you just install the new switch the same as the original?
The 4 wire conductor may only be using 2 conductors for this switch with the other 2 wires for another switch.

Not sure what you mean by mounting on the outside of the window. The contacts need to go on the inside of the window so that they cannot be tampered with. Did the contact that is on the window go bad? Most window contacts will be only two wires and set up as normally closed. Post a picture or more information and we can help.

For the majority of magnetic contacts, it only with 2 wires for the connection. don't know exact wiring method, but it should be very simple. After finish the wiring, just using the multimeter to test the circuit.

Please note that the hard wiring requires EOL resistor wiring, know more about EOL resistor:
