Air Conditioning Energy Saver Switch

I'm getting killed on my electric bills at my office. The AC units are always being left on. Is their a device that I can install with a key that will stay locked in the cylinder in the on position (to activate the AC) and release in the off position. It will be the same key for the front door so that when people leave for the day, they will have to remove the key - AC goes off - in order to lock the front door???

Any help/ideas greatly appreciated

Why not just get a programmable thermostat and lock box?

This type of switch probably can't handle much current so you'd need to tap into a 24vac control line for the AC.

To match the key you need to know what blank (SC1, KW1, SC9, etc.) the door uses and then contact the key switch manufacturer.

Doors usually have higher security keys (more pins & tumblers, more complex keyways to keep out picks) than the keys for these type switches.

Vehicle ignition switches have high security, but in my two years cutting keys I hardly ever had a vehicle key blank that matched a building door key blank.

You can go about it two ways. 1) Locking cover over the Thermostat, and programmed to turn to a higher temp during the Summer, and lower in Winter when Office is closed (ie 1/2 hour after lets say office closes @ 5:30, then change temp @ 6 pm, but ramp back up 1/2 hr before opening). Number 2 way, is to use a Internet type Thermostat such as http://www.smarthome.com/_/Thermosta...3/1Sr/nav.aspx that allows you to change from home, or watch changes remotely.
