after ceiling flooding, light fixture with fan sizzles and won't turn on

There was a flooding from upstairs, a whole load of washer water came down through the ceiling where the ceiling fan and a light fixture is.

A couple days later now, when I try to turn on the light, the fixture makes a sizzling noise and blinks and won't want to turn on.

Where should I look for the problem? Change a bulb? or do I have to open the ceiling fan box?

Thanks alot

Best bet is to replace the fan and light fixture.

Totally change the whole thing? Do I need to change the electrical box too?

NO but you might need to change the cables if they got very wet. The paper in older cable absorbs the water.

To be clear, I don't need to change the fan and the light fixture, but maybe change all the wiring?

It is an old house with wires rapped in paper and fiber...

How should I decide if the wiring should be changed?

If the fan and fixture got wet, replace them.

If the wiring got wet, especially the old paper and fiber wrapped wires, call an electrician.

Turn the power off to the circuit until you get it checked.

You have to replace the ceiling fan and luminaire due you got water damage and the other thing I am sure you know about this or not .,, you have to find a way to open up the ceiling to dry it out right away otherwise you may find very damp spot for a while that can created a new issue there.

If you have old cloth NM cable the best bet is call in electrician to assit you on this one.

Merci,
Marc
