AFCI Breaker Brands

OK pros. I am getting ready to buy 3 AFCI breakers for my basement buildout and was confronted with too many choices from the big box stores.

From Menards, the choices were Eaton, Square D, and Homeline. I do not remember what Home Depot had.

Are they all the same or are some better than others.

I just remember my last buildout a few years back having problems with a tripping AFCI.

NO! You cannot simply pick a brand of breaker. The brand of your panel determines what brand and style of breakers you must use and, sometimes, where in the panel they need to go. There should be a sticker on the panel somewhere with this information.

So what you are saying is that I can not mix and match the panel and the breakers. I know there are some breakers that don't fit into certain panels because of how the bars are laid out. But if a breaker will properly fit into a panel, you are saying I still can't use it because it is not the same brand as the panel???

Unless the breaker is listed on the panel label as acceptable you should not use another brand of breaker in your panel.
