Adding a timer to my outdoor house lighting
I have the typical outdoor house lighting that is builtin under the eves that shines down on the bricks. They are powered by a regular on/off switch in the garage.
Is there something I can use to put those lights on a daily timer? I'd like to have the lights on from say 9:00pm to 6:00am. I saw something at Home Depot where I could replace the switch with a timer but the timer was only good for about one hour. It was just a simple dial timer like you'd see on a dryer.
Yes you can do that, in fact I am surprised that HD didnt have any timer switches, I always see them when I am purchasing material for my job sites!
What you want is a digital timer switch.
The link to the above timer is exactly what you need, i have installed one before and they are very nice. You will have to check your current switch and see if the neutral goes through the switch. If there is no neutral in that box and you may be stuck with what you have now.
Your other option would be to install a photocell before those lights, probably at the first light. This way your lights would come on when it is dark and go off when it is light.
