Adding a switch

Am trying to add a switch for the light in my laundry room, it is currently a pull chain. I have the switch and box installed and ran the wire to the light fixture. When I undid the light there were two blacks and two whites tied together. The power comes into the light and then the extra set of wire powers the room next to it. How do I wire it so the switch controls only the light in the laundry room.

Thanks
Michelle

Adding a switch

Leave the white wires connected to the fixture. Disconnect the black fixture wire from the two blacks in the ceiling box. Connect the white wire from the new cable from the switch to the two blacks in the ceiling box. Connect the black of the new cable to the black of the fixture. Connect the the wires of the new cable to the switch. To be code compliant tape or color, with magic marker, the white wire of the new cable. Mark or tape them any color other than green or gray.
