Need to add an outlet on my bedroom circuit. I have an outlet box that's easy to get to which has two cables going into it. Can I just run an additional cable into it (assuming the box is large enough, or I can replace the box) and run it to the new outlet?
Basically - Yes
More in depth - you need to make sure that the box is big enough & has enough volume to fit all the wires
Each box has a different fill capacity for the number of wires/devices
Is it a metal box, blue box ?
I find the strain relief for plastic boxes to be less than sufficient. I also do not like the thickness of the of the flange when they are used as an old work box.
