Adding a light between a light switch and the receptacle it controls

The bottom part of a receptacle in our house is controlled by a switch. I tapped into this circuit by adding a light fixture between the switch and the receptacle it controlled. Both the light I added and the lamp I plugged into the switch controlled receptacle are both flickering when I turned the switch on.
What do I need to do to fix the situation?

Where did you get the neutral for the new light?

Cutting one of the wires and hooking up one loose end to one light fixture wire and the other loose end to the other fixture wire is incorrect.

Where does the power (cable from the panel) come in?
