Adding a 20a, 240V outlet in my garage; conduit / code questions

I plan to add a 20A 2-pole breaker to my existing sub-panel in my garage and run via external conduit a line to feed an externally mounted L6-20 outlet for my new table saw. (when I say external I mean "not in the wall cavity", I am not talking about running this out side)

With this approach do I need steel conduit and a steel receptacle box or can I simply pick up what ever is cheapest / most user friendly at the hardware store (PVC, flexible, etc). I am planning on mounting the box "switch height" but is there a specific minimum height that should be maintained above the garage floor?

Thanks for the help.

surface mount would be the term you are looking for.

you know the area better than we will. If it is subject to damage, I would run emt. You can run PVC but if it is subject to damage, you must use schedule 80. Otherwise, you can use schedule 40 pvc. Flex is just plain ugly.

height:

gotta look but I think receps must be 3' from the floor, minimum, of a "garage" (not sure so nobody jump on me yet. this is just off the cuff).
