400 Amp Meter Socket Upgrade, Can I Re-use Existing Metered Panel?

I am doing a service upgrade from 200 Amp to a 400 Amp service. The existing service is an all in one 200 Amp metered service panel. The plan is to install a new 320/400 Amp socket meter and install a second 200 Amp panel.

My question is, am I able to remove the meter from the existing 200 Amp panel and still use it with the new service by placing a meter cover socket blank on the meter socket? If I am able to re-use the existing panel is there anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance.

Mark

Most CSED boxes can NOT be used as a sub-panel, since the neutral is permanently bonded to the can.

You may have to change it to a regular load center, or install a separate isolated neutral bar assembly.....

When you say I may have to change it to a regular load center, what exactly do you mean? How would someone go about doing it code wise?

Why would the panel need to be rated for 400A? It would be protected by its own OCPD.

THis means you remove the existing meter/panel combo, throw it away, and then install a new regular panel in its place ....
