You really shouldn't be doing this job yourself.

All the wires (Black, Red, White) are current-carrying conductors. The green wire only serves as a grounding means, and is not part of the regular circuitry.

Clear as mud?

I would guess that white is one hot,
And black is another hot,
If it is set up for 240v.
As for the grey ???
Possibbly a neutral,
But you need to double check this first.
Meter across grey and black = 120v.
Meter across grey and white = 120v.
This would indicate the truth.
But if you have any doubts,
Get an electricain,
Dont take chances with 240v
doubily dangerous.

I think the guys were just having some fun...
Come back and give us a better description of your project. You may have a picture in your mind of what it looks like but we can't see your project so that is why it is important to lay things out so we can see it
1) Tell us why you are doing this - is it a new range replacing an older unit?
2) Is there an existing wall receptacle and does it have three pins or four pins?
3) Is the cord already attached to the range?
