4-way switches as regular
can 4-way switches for lights be used as a regular one. i found some on sale for 1$ each.

Just use diagonal lugs, and don't try to use it as a 2-pole, and it will work.

To answer the questoin - YES they can be used as a single pole switch.

Yes it will work fine. Connect one wire to a light colored screw and the other wire to a dark colored screw. Prior to installation you will need to use a multimeter to determine which combination of screws has the light turned on (close to zero ohms between the chosen screws) when the switch handle is up.
