4-way switch with multiple end of run lights
Hi. I am seeing wiring diagrams with contradictory solutions to this question. Can someone please help?

I am wiring some hall lights as follows:

Line--> 3-way switch--> 4-way switch--> 3-way switch ====> Light ====> Light ====> Light ====> Light ====> Light.

So the question is, do I need 14/3 or 14/2 Romex running between the lights? (The = in this diagram.)

To me, this is just an extended switch loop, so my thinking is I should be able to use 14/2 (The amperage of the circuit is sufficient for 14 gauge on this load). Yet some diagrams show 14/3. Others show 14/2 between the lights.

Thanks a million. I am sitting here stumped, with holes in my wall.

You only need xx-2 between the lights in that wiring setup. The xx-3 will need to be between the switches.

14/2 is all you need.
This is not a switch loop. If it was a switch loop you would need 14/3 and the switches would be at the opposite end of the circuit from the power feed.

I was not precise with my language. That's why you guys are the pro's.

Heres something that was put together for another question on 4-way. Each switch turns on all 11 can lights.

Thanks, Hammerlane and all
The common theme, from Hammerlane's diagram, etc., is that the string of lights, no matter where it is after the third switch, feed off the common of the third switch, and their lights' neutrals splice all the way back to the white/neutral of the line-in.

That way sounds so simple. I think I have it right.

This is a great site. Thanks, everyone! I'm moving again.
