4 way light switch


i replaced 2-3 ways and the 4 way i wired it the same as it was the 4-way will only work in ne position .. i need help

4 way light switch


im usally pretty good at this stuff. it doesnt matter which way i wiring it it only works in one position . i will try to get some pics for u i tested all the switches for power it only shows power when the light is off idk

and its an older house built in the late 70's they used black/white wiring

it seems to be at the light when its on but theres no power at the switches when the light is on

i replaced one of the switches a month ago , cause it went out 3-way.. is it possbile they used 2- 4 ways so no it wasnt workng right before i replaced it

4 way light switch


Are you sure you have a four way switch and not a double pole? A double pole will be marked on and off, while a four way will not.

4 way light switch


If you move the wires to the same location on the new switch as the old switch that might not work. Unless yo had the same brand of switch the positions could be different. It could be side to side instead of top to bottom or vice versa.

It depends on which box has the power source wires. Here is a basic drawing of one way to do it.
