4 way dimmer for led can lights

Hey everyone,

I just bought a house and had 14 4" LED can lights installed in my living room (all on one switch). I was hoping to get a 4 way dimmer since there are 3 entrances to the room and the lights are really bright. Ive tried coopers smart dimmers but they didnt work at all. (the little light level indicators on the dimmer switches were going crazy... but no light from the can lights). any ideas on what kind of dimmers i could use? i saw something about electronic low voltage dimmers from lutron, but not sure thats what i need. the lights i have are the RT4 sylvania LED retrofit can lights that i put into normal 4" housings. any ideas? thanks!

edward

4 way dimmer for led can lights

Are the LED units full 120 volt line voltage or is there a transformer the feeds low voltage to the LED units?

Most dimmers do not work with transformer operated devices.

4 way dimmer for led can lights

hey allan,

thanks for the reply. im 99% sure that they are 120V line voltage.

im wondering since the total wattage on the circuit is 126watts (14 lights x 9w each), that that may be a factor... (although the dimmers i tried said a minimum wattage of 90 or 100 watts... so technically i would say not.. ).
