3-wire 220 plug

I have an industrial sewing machine with only three wires but the motor is 220. Is this unusal. do I need to put in an outlet to match the plug?

an electrican told me the wire was for 110 and I need to know if there is a 3/wire electrical 220 ? the cord has 1-green,
1-white, and 1-black wire in it.

I don't know how you would run the machine without a proper receptacle for it.

3-wire 220 plug

It is not unusual for a professional sewing machine as in a factory setting to be 220-volts. The plug and the receptacle will need to match. If you bought this machine used or it is from another country it may not have a standard plug on its cord so you may have to change it and get a matching receptacle.

You don't sound as if you are sure what you have so I would recommend you hire an electrician to do the work.
