3 way switch and pilot (on -off indicator)

I have a compressor in my basement shop on a 20 amp circuit. It also supplies compressed air to the garage above. I would like to be able to switch the compressor off and on from the garage to save a trip to the basement. I know how to run a 20 amp 3 way switched circuit but I need a pilot light or some other indicator the compressor is in the on position from both the garage and basement. The indicator is necessary because compressor is right under the bedroom so kicking on in the middle of the night is simply not acceptable to my wife . Yep, that's what she looks like at 2AM when that thing kicks on.

I have 12/2 on hand and it is a short run so I don’t have a problem buying 12/3 or 12/4 if necessary or even running Ĺ inch EMT and some #12 THHN which I also have on hand. I looked for a 3 way 20 amp switch with a pilot but can not find one. What is the best way to do this?

You will of course need a neutral for your pilot, so you could get some 12-2-2 (12-4) for this. Leviton makes a light pilot in 3-way form, the part number is 1223-PLC for a clear toggle, 1223-PLR for a red toggle, and 1223-PLG for green toggle.
