3 way switch

I have a light switch in my dining room, and a light switch in my kitchen. I tore down the wall that was dividing both rooms, and on that wall was 2 switches, each switch controlled the dining room and kitchen. Once I tore the wall down, the lights still worked, until I took removed the switch. Now the dining room or kitchen does not have lights. I wired them with the same color, still didn't work. So, now I'm looking around for a electrician on craigslist, but looking to save some money and gain some knowledge on electrical. Here is what we're working with.

There's a copper metal/wiring there, just cant see it.

Put the switch back?

You may be able to temporarily get things working again by connecting two of the wires, but I cannot say which ones without seeing the other switches.

What is your intention with these wires? Is your final solution to have only one switch controlling your lights?

I want to figure out why my lights are not working while the switch is not connected. I'd like to remove them.

Did you put the switch back on those pigtails and it still didn't work?

or are you trying to flip the other switches with these undone pigtails and nothing happens?

This is how your 3 way light switches are probably set up.

Pigtails? I wired them together by color and tried that method, didn't work. So now I just wrapped each one with electrical tape until I can figure it out.

Small picture, but remember I have a light switch in dining room, a light switch by my car port entry way for the kitchen, then 2 switches on the wall that those wires were connected to that controlled the dining room and kitchen.

Maybe it's a four way...do you have two switches or three switches that control each light?

I know you're trying to give as much info you can through the internet, but the pics really don't help ...sorry

Grab a piece of paper, make a quick sketch to show each light and how many switches control each light.

Just a simple line for the wire
Don't try to draw the red, black & white like a diagram.

Take a snapshot and post.

Then I think we can really help

Do you have a volt meter? Any way to identify voltage?

I have a voltage detector pen, and no volts are going to the switches or lights.
