3 way light circuit, middle load, neutrals in switch box?

With the nec requiring a neutral in all switch boxes, would you need a 4 wire with ground for the switch at the end? Or if I'm wrong how does that work?

If you run the power to the switches first and then to the light, you have neutral in all the switch boxes and avoid the need for 4 conductor cable.

However, for a switch beyond the light, I would cautiously try a 2 conductor cable plus a 3 conductor cable in lieu of of one 4 conductor cable, depending on what supplies I had on hand.
