3 Way Fan/Light Control

I am attempting to control a fan with a light from both a wall mounted fan/light dimmer switch AND the hand held remote that comes with the fan. It would seem that using the same principle of a 3-way light switch, it would be possible to accomplish.

The fan comes with a remote that has a dimmer for the light and a 3 speed fan control. There is a receiver in the fan canopy.

If I connect both the wall switch and the receiver in the canopy, the light is erratic when using the wall switch. If I turn off the light from the hand held remote, I can no longer turn the light on from the wall switch.

Is there a way to wire this so that it works just like a 3-way where I can turn the light or fan on or off from either the wall switches or the remote?

The wall switch connects/disconnects the wire going to the ceiling box.

Turn off the switch and you have no power up there.

You are "stuck" with the remote.

edit: You could buy another remote and mount it to the wall by the switch.
