Default

3 prong to 4 prong dryer cord


i have a 3 prong dryer that i need th change to 4 prong but the 4 prong is color coded dark green yellow red and light green and the 3 prong is not color coded so how do i hook it up?

3 prong to 4 prong dryer cord


Unless you have 4 conductors in your wiring method you cannot change the receptacle.

The model dryer should outline how to connect the 4 prong cord
Mine has the wiring diagram on the back of the dryer
Or a manual should be available one line

Unless the OP has 4 conductors the cord cannot be changed and just leave the one prong unwired.

Sound like non standard colour cord you have there.

Did you check with the manufacter instruction ??

Normally the North Americine connections are Black , Red both are line while White is netural and { Dark } Green is ground.

The only way you can do this in correct way is take a ohm meter and read it out the two vertical blades are hot while the round pin is ground and the L shaped blade is netural.

If you feel the colour is not correct just go back where you got the cord and get the correct one.
