250v 50A Stove plug convert to 240v 30A for dryer
Hi All,
I just purchased a new dryer / washer and went to plug it in and found the plug is different from the one needed for the dryer. Presently the wall receptacle has written 250v, 50A. By tracing to the breaker box the switch is a 40 A switch. I need to convert this to a 240v, 30A receptacle to make my dryer work. Does any other work need to be done other than to switch the receptacle cover ? Thanks, |
The breaker would need to be changed to 30 amp.
Do you have a 3 or 4 wire feed? |
You need to change the receptacle too. Wire is fine as long as it's #10 or larger.

Thanks for the fast responses. How would I tell if the wire is #10?
