230/208 Volt 20 Amp A/C question

Hi all,

I live in Canada and have bought a 230/208 Volt 20 amp A/C, the electrician came over and says this won't work on the house electrical system. I'm no electrician, but from a little research on google it should work???

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Denis

Did he say it simply wouldn't work, or wouldn't work without modification to your existing system?

  • You probably don't have a 230V circuit to where you want to put the A/C; that would have to be added.
  • There probably isn't a spare 2-pole 20A breaker in your panel.
  • There may not be space in your current panel to mount the 2-pole breaker you need.
  • Adding the A/C might exceed the total current capacity of your existing panel.
