20amp receptacle no ground wire

i am wiring in a 20 amp outlet where the electrician forgot to install one years ago, thought it was going to be a quick easy install, but when i pulled the wires out of the box no ground wire, just black, white, and red. would there be a reason he cut the ground? its in an AV cabinet on a 20amp breaker. any suggestions on how to ground this?

Is the wiring in pipe or NM cable?

i am not to sure i can see a red shielding on the wires when they come into the box, i dont know what the electrician used when running the wires, its in the back of a cabinet which is hard to reach due to equipment or i would pull it out.
