2 switch problem

I just purchased and older home that i had to have them update the electrical panel before i moved in.

My living room has no ceiling light, its hooked to a switch by the door.
There are no single pole switches in the same box , the left one goes to the porch light and the second one goes to im guessing the outlet,

but the second switch has no power as also my outlet has no power

and the porch light switch only tells me its live with my tester when its in the off position if i turn the porch light on with the power on it doesnt light up,
so i was wondering if anybody could lead me to possibly how this is supposed to be wired as im thinking that maybe they connected the wrong wires together or something as there is a little jumper wire in between the switches , thanks

You post does not make sense to me.

What's hooked to the switch? You have no ceiling light yet it reads like the non existent light is hooked to a switch.

2 switch problem

The left switch for the porch light when on doesnt show that theres power but when its switched to off position it shows its live

im not sure if there are 2 terminals or 3 on each of the switches but i know there was the short wire going from one to the other

but there are 3 sets of wire coming into the box as shown in diagram
so im thinking that maybe they wired it wrong in the box because my outlet doesnt work and the switch never shows its live

so was kind of looking for possibly how its supposed to be wired together, if i remember right theres only 2 wires in each also

any help would be appreciated

if someone cant figure out what my pictures show i will open it up tomorrow and take actual pictures

thanks

The 2nd switch controls the outlet , for a lamp, instead of having something mounted in the ceiling

Looks like power comes in and is wired to the middle, jumpered between the 2 switches. Then power out from each switch to a separate wire.

Looks fine to me, but your outlet and porch getting no power?

What are you using to test for voltage?

a standard double end probe with red lights on it, second switch gets no power ( as outlet doesnt either)

the porch light works just
the left switch for the porch shows nothing unless the porch light is on

should the jumper wire possibly be coming from the left side of the left switch? or switch possibly bad

EDIT---- The left switch reads live when switch is off, turn porch light on and it doesnt show up

I suspect a bad switch. The jumper is not the problem as it is providing power to the other switch and is unbroken to the second switch.

i took the jumper off the right switch and hooked to other screw with wire
and turned breaker back on and my outlet had power so must be the switch, even though i dont understand why my tester says no power when my porch light is on.....

Thanks guys wanted to make sure was wired right before i started messing with anything else

Two possible issues I see.
1. Is that a wad of tape on the white wires. It should have a good wire nut on it.
2. The black wire that jumpers to the other switch has a lot of exposed copper on it.

Joed., If ya ran into some of older home like 50's era or before with oringal wiring like that some case they used to solider it. ( common in old days before wirenuts / marettes were common )

2. The black wire that jumpers to the other switch has a lot of exposed copper on it.

That is typical for that era and I do that once a while try to keep the numbers of splice low as possible.
Merci,
Marc
