100Amp Sub-panel wire gauge

I'm adding a 100 Amp main lug panel right next to my other panel (200 Amp service). Single family dwelling and my county uses NEC 2008 code. Just wondering the easiest wire to use to feed the panel (in an unfinished basement). Do you recommend sheathed SE/SER copper or THHN in conduit? Can I use #1 or #2 NM or does it have to be SE/SER? I'm just wondering what gauge and type of wire to use (don't want to take any chances with the inspector so I'd rather be conservative).

100Amp Sub-panel wire gauge

A small conduit nipple, with some #3 type THHN copper wire should do the trick. You'll need at least a 1" nipple (I'd use a 1¼" offset nipple for this).

100Amp Sub-panel wire gauge

Thanks! If it looks easier to do a sheathed cable and cable clamp what type and gauge would you use?
