100 amp sub panel 70 feet from main panel

I am throwing out a question. We are installing a 100 amp sub panel in a garage. It is approximately 70 feet, as the cable runs, from the Main Panel. I planned on using #2 SER but am confused as to derating. I have heard 2 ser was OK. Another associate says 2 ser is only good for about 80 amps by derating. The main service panel is GE and I need to find the derated breaker which is not available at a box store of course. Any insight is appreciated.

So you're an electrical contractor and you're coming here to find out how to do a proper installation?

And what did you mean by "associate"? An electrician or an associate at a big box store?
