No, he is following faulty principles that prolonged the Great Depression.

How is printing more money, reducing value of the money that you and I hold in our wallets, to spend on jobs that don't provide long-term employment (roads, bridges, dams, railroads, etc), and pet projects of lobbyists going to get us out of the situation we are in. We have already lost China as an investor which has been propping up the dollar (because they were buying our T-bills left and right in the past). Who do you propose is going to step in and desire to buy our debt, when we the Federal Reserve has the printing machines working overtime, thus devaluing our dollar?

Here is a homework assignment for you, go study the "laffer curve." There is the answer to what we need to do in this recession.

But didn't it? I mean the U.S. in 1940 is nothing like the U.S. in 1946. Less than a decade later, we were a fundamentally different country, in terms of technology, fire power, economics, culture, language. etc.

And the Democrats of that time are nothing like the Democrats of today. Unrecognizable. A certain amount of liberalism was/is necessary. But now, we've reach the other side of the bell curve. There is a sound bite on youtube from Reagan in about 1964. He describes the things that socialists will do in order to gain power and control. I'll be damned if it isn't almost spot on to what today's "Democrats" and so-called "Republicans" are doing.

Norman MattonThomas (November 20, 1884 - December 19, 1968) was a leading American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America . He was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1911. As a candidate for President of the U. S. , Norman Thomas said, in a 1944 epoch speech: "The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of "liberalism", they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."He went on to say: "I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform.

There are a lot of things I could say, or anyone else for that matter. But it all boils down to the fact, that the things that were being done wasn't working. Good, bad or indifferent, it was and is time for a change. Irregardless of party, something different needs to be done. Obama got elected with electoral AND popular vote. Sounds to me like the average person, irregardless of race, religion, gender or political affiliation, was ready for something, anything new. Just my 2 cents.

I can pretty much agree with you there... except the "irregardless" thing

I think we are headed the way of Socialism. I hate to say it but it's true.

Look at Canada. Ok. ok. I know that is a fires starter w/ some of our Canadian pros but it's true.

Germany, France, UK, , all the Western European countries are knee deep in entitlement programs with business and employees paying taxes out the Whazoo.

So goes Europe so goes America eventually. We don't have the mfg base we once had that provided Health Insurance. And a lot of the big companies are finding creative ways either to diminish coverage to save money or not offer it at all.

It used to be (at least small business) felt a moral obligation to provide coverage.

Now the business mind set is to seek ways to dodge the insurance coverage bullet completely.

When i had guys working for me I paid half and they paid half. And not just minimum coverage either. We got Blue Cross Blue shields best individual plans possible that covered damn near everything.

To day I am a one man shop and my coverage comes from my wife's work.

And they are constantly changing and limiting the coverage we have.

No office visits are covered but the hospital coverage is great. Co pay on drugs is outrageous and covers only generics.

i don't want a government run health program. But i wonder if it is feasible to create one giant group of the workers in this country and either have the employer or employee both contribute to the cost. The risk would be spread among more people and should allow for the high risk members to get coverage they could not get.

I agree also.

Americans need to stand united. Politics/policies aside, the government works for us, not the other way around. Just my 2.

Hold down the Alt key and type in 0162. Release the Alt key. Also try the Alt key and 0176, this symbol may be useful to you.
