york upright oil furnace with direct drive blower motor

i just installed a yorkoil furnace in my house. when i went to fire it up last night everything went beautiful except the blower motor.it first overloaded and shut it off then i freed it up but then it made alot of racket. i messed with it for a while and now i am to the point where it is good while running but very very noisy when starting and slowing to a stop. any suggestions on how i can resolve this.. thanks.

Make sure the blower wheel is not hitting the cowling or off balance or has a loose hub or fins. Then replace the motor.

its brand new furnace.is it possible the motor is bad? its all new.

Some times blower wheel set screws are not tight when the unit is shipped from the factory. It's one of the first things to check when installing equipment. If it turns out that the blower wheel set screws are tight, check to make sure there is nothing in the blower, such as factory paperwork or styrofoam packing.

ok i will check the set screws and stuff. i freed it up by spinning it with my hand as it was trying to start.and i messed with it by turning the hex nuts that hold it on cowl where the rubber bushings are . i can spin it by hand for 3/4 of the way around with it totally quiet then it scrapes the other 1/4 of the way.

i think i might just take it out and check it over. is it just the 2 screws on each side on the rail that i take out to get it out.or is there an easier way

Cannot see it from here. Sounds like the blower wheel is too far towards the cowling and hitting it and needs to be reset on the motor shaft so it is closer to the motor. Turning those hex nuts just squeezed the rubber mounts in and gave it more clearance. I have had new blower wheels be badly off balance or warped. Take it out and spin it and see how much side to side motion/play it has. Should be less than a 1/2 inch.

Over the years. I got more then one furnace from York/UPG that had a banged up blower housing, or imbalanced wheel. So yes, its possible its a bad wheel or housing from the factory.

My definition of a factory: 300 people waiting for quitting time.

And then there is quality issues and how sturdy the blower wheel is and thickness of fan housing. People who think all furnaces are the same need to pull a blower wheel and fan out of 6-8 brands and then you will see where the quality gets cut and why you get what you pay for.

thanks for everyones input. it ended up being i just had to loosen the set screw and slide it on the shaft to line it up. again. thank you guys
