YORK heat pump

We moved to a house with a York heat pump (built in 2001)... The unit has recently developed a frost ring about 4" inches high around the middle of the coils... Anyone know what causes this and how it can be fixed?.. Thanks... WilySam

This is a normal occurrence, if you watch it long enough you will see the unit go into a defrost cycle. Now if it turns into a giant ice cube, then you have issues.
