Would running a small duct through cmu be an issue?
I could get better pictures tomorrow of my situation.
I have a basement with in-slab air ducts. One of the rooms is a small bedroom with two supply registers but no air return. Air flow is low anyways because of the room being at the end of the slab run. I was able to run air returns to the main room as shown in the crude sketch up. Due to how the framing is above the bedroom, there is practically no way to put a return in the bedroom ceiling without putting a hole in the CMU block wall, even then there would be barely any working space.
I figured it would be easier just to put a return register in the center of the wall, but I'd have to break a small hole in the CMU. Would it be okay to put a small piece of duct though a hole in CMU? (The drywall is mounted on 2x2's)
With 2x2 studs, what happens when you get a strong wind????
Sorry if I wasn't clear, this duct would go through the block to the adjacent room. The drywall in that basement room was secured to 2x2 studs just to mount the drywall and hold electrical boxes. The cmu blocks are the actual basement wall
