woodstove venting

Is it necessary to install the woodstove vent straight up? I would have to do a stair step pattern in order to position the stove where I would like it. Would that cause any problems?

It can depend on the stove. There are so many different manufacturers and applications that the code remains pretty vague on the subject. The code basically refers you to the manufacturer's instructions and requires that they be followed.

Elbows certainly reduce flow, and aren't a good thing. Straight vertical is much more ideal. If you must use elbows, I imagine that 45's are going to be bettern than 90's.

Check the instructions. If you don't have them, contact the manufacturer.

woodstove venting

Well I found a manual online. It showed many figures with the stove pipe having multiple 90 degree turns. The only thing it said was to avoid unecessary turns, and also to slope any horizontal pipe upward toward the chimney at least 1/4" for each foot of horizontal run. So there we have it, I guess.

I am planning on using a 6 to 8 inch adapter for the pipe diameter. Will this help reduce the amount of flow restriction I am creating by installing multiple turns?

Anybody know where I can find stove pipe for cheap?

Maybe a Lowes, HD or Central Tractor (Tractor Supply Center), or your local woodstove dealer....
