Wood burning smell in house when heater is on

When my furnace is running it smells like wood burning. Recently I cleaned out my garage and was blowing some dust out of it which I think some got into the furnace. I had a heater guy come out and said probably some small wood piece or dust got into the heat exchangers of the heater and gave me a quote for cleaning it out. He said he can either clean it out or we can just live with the smell for a while. I can live with the smell just worried that it will cause damage to the heater. I can't imaging its any sizeable piece to get in the furnace in the first place. should I be worried or it will just burn harmlessly away eventually

Saw dust will do that---harmless in my experience--just irritating--(I have a wood shop in my house)

Wood dust is as harmless as smoldering wood dust and should disipate with a few heating cycles.
One of my customers had their ducts cleaned in the summer time and a kids rubber ball must of been pulled onto the top of the heat exchanger. Oct saw the furnace being turned on for the first time where it melted into the exchanger. They had the smell like a burning rubber tire throughout the house for the next year every single time the furnace turned on.
