Won't run..

Hi there..looking for some help.

I have a carrier model 38TK024300 that won't work. Used to run great, then started to start and stop and would hum. Now it doesn't make a noise or move. I replaced the capacitor and still get nothing. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

Inside or outside unit? Which part exactly?

It's a outside unit. Not sure about part. When it was humming I don't know if it was the fan or compressor? The fan blades still move freely, but the unit it's self doesn't do anything now. Guess I'm looking for suggestions on where to start looking.

Checking is a simple process of elimination. Is there 240V at the line side of the contactor. Is there 24V at the contactor, if not is there 24v at the thermostat wires at the AC?

The source of the 240V is the breaker/fuse panel in the house. The source of the 24v is the transformer in the furnace/air handler. Start on the AC end and work your way back to the sources to find which component is dropping voltage. Starting at the AC end lets you eliminate large blocks of potential problem causing components at a time.
