Wiring help for new thermostat

I've had a cheap programmable thermostat (White Rogers 1F78-151) from the power company for a while and decided to install it. My motivation is simply to have the heat come up in the morning before I get out of bed. Anyway, the wiring on the current thermostat is as follows

Blue - W
Green - G
Red - R
White - C
Yellow - Y

The new unit has these terminals

W, RC, RH, G, Y, O, B RH and RC are jumpered out of the package.

The new unit looks to run on batteries but the current unit has no batteries.

Use RWYG on the new stat and forget the C (tape it off). It allows the old one to run w/o batteries. Both work the same.Leave the Rc-Rh jumper alone and hook R to one of them.

Wiring help for new thermostat

Thanks. As I understand it, the white wire to C on the old unit is for power to the unit itself. Since the new one runs on batteries it isn't needed - correct?
