Why won't my AC work after turning thermostat off?
I went away for 6 days, so I turned off my thermostat when I left to help save on energy costs (I now know to just turn it up rather than off). When I got home and turned the thermostat back on, the AC would not work. By not work I mean the unit blows air, just not cold air, and it doesn't blow as hard as it usually does. The inside unit runs constantly while on, and the outside unit runs for a few seconds then stops. This same issue has happened in the past, with the unit acting the exact same way, and after thinking about it I realized that the last time it did this, I had turned the thermostat off and back on again. That time, we ended up paying a professional $120 to come and fix it for us. I'm not sure exactly what he did, other than tinker with the thermostat. I tried this myself however, and didn't yield results. I tried reseting the thermostat and changing the temp down to 55 degrees just to see if I could get any results, and after being on for 4-5 hours there was still no change in temp. By the way, this thermostat is a digital Filterete 3M-22 if that helps. I was wondering if anyone here has had a simular issue or any ideas to help me out. It's in the 90's and with 3 small children and not enough cash to pay the tech again, I could use some advise.

Thanks in advance!

Jumper R-Y and G at the thermostat. If the unit runs then it's a faulty thermostat.

Troubleshooting requires multiple "if-then" steps, which is difficult on a site like this. It sounds like you might be low on refrigerant, and tripping the low pressure switch. Are you willing to open the unit and look for the switch?
Did you try the thermostat jumper like Marty suggested?

Could also be a bad capacitor in the outside unit. Happens more than low refrigerant.
